Turning hydrogen into metal

Scientists at HarvardUniversity have discovered a way to convert hydrogen into metal. Hydrogen is in fact the lightest among all elements. Researchers have been studying this issue for almost one full century.

Experts share that the new invention could be a game-changer in today’s world. The properties of the metallic hydrogen could result in much faster supercomputers, advance sin energy, and levitating railways. New inventions could include energy that could power rocket ships far into the Earth’s solar system.

A scientist explained that it takes a huge amount of energy in order to produce metallic hydrogen. The professor explained that if it’s converted back to the molecular form of hydrogen all the energy is released. That would make a very powerful rocket propellant that could be revolutionary in the world of rocketry. Humans could then explore the solar system’s outer planets.

The potential of the new technology seems very exciting. However, scientists point out that while their discovery is a major step their sample size used in the experiment was very small. They must do more tests in order to learn if bigger amounts of hydrogen could be converted into a metal.

Pulling water out of air

This invention is from the University of California (UC), Berkley. The school’s researchers discovered how to pull water out of air. They invented a device that can extract water from air in certain weather conditions in which humidity is as low as 20%. The device is solar powered and uses a framework that’s metal-organic in order to pull water vapor from the air.

The prototype was able to remove 3 quarters of water in a total 12 hours when the device was sitting in a region with 20%-30% humidity. Scientists think this invention could be a game-changer in regions where people have limited access to water that’s clean. That includes several regions in Africa.

Fluorescent frog in Argentina

The world’s first fluorescent frog has recently been discovered. The frog in fact glows in the dark. The feature has also been found in fish, birds, and turtles. However, this is the first amphibian that had the feature. Scientists observed the frog glowed in the dark after they observed the frogs were a little red in some lights.

7 Planets in Aquarius

This might seem like science fiction but it’s true. Scientists have discovered 7 Earth-sized planets in the Aquarius constellation. Based on the closeness to the star as well as the general size it’s believed that the planets might include life. The planets are 39 light years from Earth and are around a dwarf star that doesn’t give off as much energy as our stars. However, scientists still believe that life could exist there. They hope that within 10 years or so we can learn if life indeed exists on the planets.

A scientist pointed out that they’ve made a big step to learn if there’s life somewhere in the universe besides Earth. They’ll know if life thrived and gave off gasses like on Earth.
